Meet Erin: A Modern Mystic Gaining Wisdom From Her Children

Please tell us a bit about yourself.

My name is Erin, I was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY and I moved to San Diego 13 years ago. I have 3 beautiful sons Bryson (6.5), Christian (5) and Liam (14 months) with my soulmate Ryan. I call myself a “5th Dimensional Soul Guide and Modern Mystic”.  I use my gifts of psychic mediumship with my lifelong love of astrology and the various healing modalities I’ve been attuned to such as Reiki, Theta Healing, Akashic Records, Breathwork and more to guide others back to their Divine light. I believe in holistic healing, esoteric knowledge and ancient wisdom. These practices I embody in my own journey and help others with too.

What do you love most about being a mom?

Being a mother has fulfilled me in ways I never thought imaginable. The unconditional love, the purpose, the joy - it's all so special. I love to see my children be free, be themselves. While watching them grow older is bittersweet, it’s so fun to see them meet milestones and learn new things. They have helped me heal my own inner child so much. I love rediscovering books I loved as a child and reading with them. I love having family time with all of us. They have taught me how important it is to slow down, enjoy life and be present.  Of course, all the hugs, snuggles, kisses, and affection is the best too!

Let's be real. Motherhood isn't always sunshine and rainbows. What aspect of motherhood challenges you to grow into your highest self?

My children are my greatest teachers. They mirror back to me every unhealed aspect of myself and I can’t escape it! Each child brings a different lesson too. Somehow for me patience is a common thread, lol. It’s been a long road with Bryson and his healing journey and it’s always changing. And while it is a lot to take on, it’s because of him I am so awakened. He reminds me that I have Aries in my 4th house and I am always going to advocate and fight for him (and my other children).  My middle son Christian is very curious and talks more than anyone I’ve met in my life lol. Sometimes I get a little tapped out with all the questions. I try to remember he's just a kid and he’s still learning. My baby boy Liam has taught me balance. He’s very grounded for a baby. My cousin told me something that’s stayed with me after I had my third child “a mother’s love does not divide, only multiples" and I try to embody that so the boys feel it too.

Becoming a mom, you grow into a new version of yourself, physically, mentally, and emotionally. How has being a mom shaped you into your present self?

I am a whole different person. I am an only child and I only ever had myself to take care of. I wasn’t really around babies or kids much. Let’s just say in my teens and 20s, I liked to party lol. So it’s a big change to have a big family, especially 3 very active boys. But what I have been feeling lately is modeling the example of a person who has solid core values, priorities that align with my values and decisions, makes decisions for their highest and best and checks in with their Highest Self, is healthy and well in mind, body, soul, slows down to enjoy life and isn’t afraid to be herself.  You take on a whole new level of self awareness when you realize you have 3 sponges watching you 24/7 and just absorbing. My children see my altars, my candles, my crystals, my cards and they ask questions. Their mom isn’t like other moms and they aren’t like other kids. If they see me accept and love my own unique light, they will too. They see me stand my ground and have boundaries and be non-negotiable about many things. I would rather them see me fight and advocate for my beliefs than comply. I am hopefully teaching them to be the same.

How do you reset when you feel overwhelmed, or find a moment of bliss in the chaos?

I am lucky to have a partner who understands that as a spiritually gifted person I need to clear my energy a lot or I get sick or I can’t be of service to others. And the kids can wear me out! A few times a week I meditate with my crystals or do some self Reiki. Then I usually consult my cards and journal.  It’s a big reset for me. I used to take a lot of spiritual baths but not as many lately for no particular reason. Also once a week or so I like to take 15 minutes in our infrared sauna and detox then shower. I also prioritize sleep! After I finish everything for the night I read for a bit and it lights out no later than 10 pm!

What's your favorite spot in San Diego to take your boys, that's joyful for all of you

Kate Sessions comes to mind. The grassy part where you can look out and see the whole city and into Mexico. We usually have a picnic and bring a few toys and just chill. It’s so grounding and they can just play and run around.

Thank you so much for sharing a part of your journey! What do you have for local San Diego moms, and where can we find you?

If you are interested in working with me I have a monthly membership and usually do courses (educational and healing) a few times a year. I do offer single services like readings, intuitive healing or birth charts. On my instagram stories from time to time I do one card readings and astro readings. I used to do a lot of rituals for people but since having Liam I have slowed that down as it takes a lot of energy. I am a published writer (resident astrologer at FireandLux, ex astrologer at RedTric, San Diego Moms Blog, Holistic Fashionista Magazine, Canvas Rebel and SDVoyger to name a few). I do have a podcast called #groundedandglam Modern Mystics and Motherhood and a YouTube Channel - Erin The Urban Mermaid, I’d like to revive both one day. To learn more about my services my website is www.erintheurbanmermaid.com you can join the mailing list at the top of my page to stay in touch. The best place to reach me and really keep up is my IG @erintheurbanmermaid (on FB and TT as well).
